MIRADOR LA FARRAPONA, SOMIEDO, SPAIN

“Mira, estoy ciego, mira”

Concept

"You can look and see nothing, but you can also look and see everything".

Natural and Cultural Context

This proposal for a geological viewpoint in the Alto de La Farrapona aims not only to create a place to look out over the landscape but also to pay homage to the “vaqueiros de alzada”.

The basic idea of the project is to create a horizontal platform from which to contemplate the geological, cultural and scenic landscape of the Saliencia valley and a roof as a shelter from a downpour under which the information panels are sheltered.

Construction

The platform rises from the ground, respecting the natural slope in the same way as the masonry walls of the "brañas" or "majadas".

The roof, made of chestnut wood, will be burnt on the outside for self-protection and inside it will house a work of art by the sculptor and painter Pablo Maojo, an artistic interpretation that creates a specific place. This roof will also have small openings to frame key points of the landscape, some exclusively for children.
